TUMESCENT LOCAL ANESTHESA IN GOAT UNERGOIMG PENILE LATERAL TRANSLOCATION - CASE REPORT

Abstract

In Brazil, low-cost methods are frequently used to detect cases of estrum and the use of ruffians is the main traditional method. A male goat, 13 kg , underwent ruffian preparation through lateral penis deviation at the Veterinary Hospital of the Centro Universitário das Faculdades Integradas de Ourinhos - Unifio.  Xylazine 2% (0.2 mg.kg-1) was administered intramuscularly as a pre-anesthetic medication. Following 15 minutes of MPA administration, the animal was placed in right lateral recumbency position for subsequent hair clipping and cleansing of the region to be surgically approached. The tumescent local anesthesia was performed with an anesthetic solution comprised of 460 mL of Ringer Lactate, 1 mg of epinephrine and 40 mL of lidocaine 2% without vasoconstrictor. The solution was administered into the subcutaneous tissue, using the infiltrative technique, covering the area to be incised. Following tumescent solution administration, an incision was made in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The objective is to report the tumescent local anesthesia technique in animals undergoing penile lateral translocation surgery.
